Every year on March 8th, the same thing happens:
Flowers, Messages, Quotes about strong women....
And while the intention may be good, something about it has always felt… slightly misplaced.
Because strength is not a one-day celebration, It is a daily negotiation with reality.
Women who lead — in sport, business, science, entrepreneurship, or any field that demands performance — know this very well. Progress is rarely glamorous. It is built in quiet moments that never make it to Social Media:
– early mornings
– uncomfortable decisions
– mistakes that must be corrected
– pressure that has to be managed
And sometimes, it is built in rooms where you are still the only woman present. Not because you were invited as a symbol, but because you earned the right to be there.
That distinction matters.
The conversation around Women and Success often focuses on empowerment as something emotional or inspirational.
But real empowerment is rarely emotional, It is structural and it looks like:
– competence
– credibility
– discipline
– and the ability to remain composed when things become complicated.
In high-performance environments — whether in sport or in leadership — respect is not granted through celebration days: It is earned through consistency.
That is why March 8th should not be about applause.
It should be a reminder.
A reminder that progress happens when people — Women and Men — focus less on symbolic gestures and more on creating environments where competence can actually thrive.
Because in the end, success has a very simple rule:
Performance does not care about gender.
It cares about preparation, and that is something worth building every single day.
