Podcast: The Living Project
About This Conversation
Some decisions seem insignificant when we make them.
Others arrive at moments when everything feels uncertain, the pressure is high, and we cannot predict what will happen next.
But every decision has something in common: it influences what follows.
In this episode of The Living Project, we explored leadership, personal growth, resilience, and the decisions we make when circumstances challenge our expectations.
Drawing on my experience in international Grand Prix dressage, entrepreneurship, and high-performance environments, we discussed how people respond to mistakes, adapt to uncertainty, and develop the ability to move forward without having every answer.
Because life rarely gives us perfect conditions in which to decide.
The Decisions We Make When Things Go Wrong
Making a decision when everything is going according to plan is relatively easy.
The real challenge begins when the situation changes.
A mistake has been made. An unexpected obstacle appears. The information available is incomplete.
And suddenly, the decision is no longer simply about what we want to achieve.
It is about how we respond.
During our conversation, we explored why responsibility, adaptability, and the ability to manage our reactions become particularly important in these moments.
An unexpected outcome does not automatically mean that the original decision was wrong.
Sometimes it simply means that the next decision requires a different approach.
What High-Performance Sport Teaches Us About Everyday Life
In sport, we learn very quickly that preparation does not guarantee a particular result.
You can train carefully, develop a strategy, and arrive at a competition ready to perform.
But you cannot control every circumstance.
The same principle applies to business and personal life.
What matters is developing the ability to act effectively even when uncertainty remains.
We also discussed why resilience is not simply about enduring difficult situations.
It is about learning from experience, adapting when necessary, and continuing to improve without allowing temporary setbacks to define our direction.
My Thoughts
What I appreciate about conversations like this is the opportunity to connect experiences from very different environments.
The challenges faced by an athlete, an entrepreneur, or someone navigating a difficult period in their personal life may look completely different.
But the questions behind them are often remarkably similar.
What can I influence?
What should I accept?
What can I learn?
And what am I going to do next?
For me, leadership begins with the responsibility we take for our own actions.
We cannot control everything around us, but we can decide how we respond and what we choose to do afterwards.
And sometimes, the most important decision is simply refusing to let an unexpected moment determine everything that comes next.
