I Want to Surprise Myself.

One of the things I love about sport is discovering that I can do something I could not do before.

Especially when I did not see it coming.

You approach an exercise expecting the usual difficulty. Then you realise you have more control. You try a movement that once felt unfamiliar, and your body begins to understand it.

There is a very particular pleasure in that discovery.

You immediately become curious about what else is possible.

I feel it when I ride, when I train and when I get on the motorcycle. Different activities ask different things of me. Each gives me something new to explore.

That is exciting.

Being experienced in one discipline does not mean you have finished discovering your physical abilities.
You can have years of practice behind you and still find something that makes you think: I want to learn that.

I love having that appetite.

And I like that progress sometimes catches us before we have had time to assess it.

You are doing the work, paying attention, trying things. Then an ordinary session gives you a moment you were not expecting.

You notice what has changed.

For a few seconds, you are simply delighted with yourself.

I think we should enjoy those moments properly. Let the satisfaction register before immediately deciding what needs improving next.

After all, you have just discovered a new possibility in a body you thought you knew.

I want more of those discoveries. I am curious about what I have yet to ask of myself.
