There should be a separate receipt for the things we actually intended to buy.
Mine would be very short.
Toothpaste.
The other receipt requires an explanation, a comfortable chair and possibly legal representation.
Because somewhere between the entrance and the toothpaste, I apparently became a person who needed a candle.
I already have candles. This one smells like the kind of woman who answers all her emails.
Obviously, I want to meet her.
Then there is a little bowl. No clear purpose, but beautiful. I can find something small to put in it. Perhaps the money I have left.
The most persuasive objects are always the ones that suggest a slightly more organised, beautifully lit version of your life.
A notebook offers a fresh beginning. A glass container suggests that you might finally understand your kitchen cupboards.
For a few minutes, it all seems entirely plausible.
Then you get home, unpack your new personality and discover that you forgot the toothpaste.
Which means you have to go back.
I recommend using a different entrance.
The candle knows you now.
