I’ve always found it funny how much importance we give to the calendar when it comes to exercise.
Monday?
Perfect day to start.
January?
Even better.
The first of the month?
Apparently, something magical is about to happen. 😜
We make plans.
We create schedules.
We tell ourselves:
“From Monday, I’m getting serious.”
And Monday has somehow become responsible for an extraordinary number of fitness transformations that never actually happened.
The funny thing is that your body has absolutely no idea what day it is.
It doesn’t know it’s Monday.
It doesn’t know it’s January.
And it certainly doesn’t know that you bought new leggings specifically for this new beginning.
Your body understands something much simpler.
Movement.
Repetition.
Rest.
Consistency.
What you do regularly matters much more than the perfect day you decide to begin.
I think this is one of the reasons we sometimes make exercise unnecessarily complicated.
We wait for the right moment.
The right program.
The right amount of time.
The right energy.
The right week.
But movement doesn’t require a ceremony.
Sometimes you have an hour.
Sometimes twenty minutes.
Sometimes you do a proper workout.
Sometimes you stretch, walk, ride, do a few Pilates exercises or simply move your body more than you did yesterday.
It all counts.
And perhaps the most useful change happens when exercise stops feeling like something we constantly have to start again.
It simply becomes something we do.
Not perfectly.
Not identically every day.
But regularly enough that our body recognizes it as part of our life.
Of course, there will still be Mondays when we feel incredibly motivated.
And there will be Thursdays when the sofa suddenly develops an extremely convincing personality.
That’s normal.
The goal isn’t to create the perfect training week.
It’s to stop believing that one imperfect day has ruined it.
Missed Monday?
Train Tuesday.
Busy Tuesday?
Move Wednesday.
Had a terrible week?
Start again today.
No dramatic restart required.
Because your body isn’t keeping track of the calendar.
It is keeping track of what you repeatedly ask it to do.
And fortunately for all of us…
it has never heard of Monday. 😜
