There is something about fitness culture that has always amused me.
We talk endlessly about training.
How many repetitions.
How many steps.
How many calories.
How many minutes.
How many workouts per week.
And then somehow food becomes the enemy.
I have never understood that.
I train because I want my body to be strong, energetic and capable.
And a body that works needs fuel.
Of course, what we eat matters.
But for me, eating well has never meant eating as little as possible.
It means giving my body what it needs to do everything I ask from it.
To train.
To ride.
To recover.
To concentrate.
To have energy throughout the day.
And, equally important, to enjoy life.
Because I don’t want a lifestyle that works perfectly for three weeks and makes me miserable for the next three months.
I prefer something I can actually live with.
Some days that means eating incredibly well.
Some days it means going out for dinner.
Sometimes it’s protein, vegetables and all the things that make us feel wonderfully responsible.
And sometimes there is dessert.
I can confirm that the world continues turning. 😜
I think we sometimes forget that taking care of our body shouldn’t become another way of fighting against it.
Food isn’t a punishment.
And it isn’t a reward either.
It’s simply part of the equation.
The same body we expect to become stronger needs enough energy to actually do the work.
That doesn’t mean eating everything without thinking.
It means finding a balance that doesn’t require your entire life to revolve around what is on your plate.
Because being fit, at least for me, isn’t about creating a body that looks good for one photograph.
It’s about having a body that allows me to live the life I want to live.
Strong enough to work.
Fit enough to train.
Energetic enough to enjoy it.
And relaxed enough to occasionally look at the dessert menu without having an existential crisis. 😜
Taking care of your body should add something to your life.
Not take your life away from you.
